¨Dehumanization is the process, practice, or act of denying full humanity in others, along with the cruelty and suffering that accompany it.¨
Where colonialist remnants persist, dehumanization is implicit, and some will consider themselves manifestly superior to others. A tasteless attitude, preserved from bygone times.
To desensitize is, for the moment, used positively, as to surpass fears, to familiarize, but the term is more complex, and as it indicates, it implies lowering the sensorial perception.
Our senses depend on the sensorial capacity. Sometimes we adjust, like getting accustomed to the city noises, but other times, lowering our sensorial perception has a dangerous impact.
Being treated unfairly, living in pain in everyday life, stimulates defense mechanisms, like desensitization. We try not to feel the pain, because we have already felt too much.
