CD Gagiu la MACBA

It's too cloudy to see the moon, so the Moon painted t-shirt went to MACBA.

This is a call for MACBA that they could consider exposing CD Gagiu´s Rhinoceros exhibition, which includes various artistic techniques, among them fabric painting.

The contemporary art museum in Barcelona opens its doors each Saturday from 16th to 20th hours to people like me, giving access to exhibitions for free. It's open access to culture, even if only for four hours, and a great opportunity to start the year with one of the best exhibitions Barcelona has ever had: Project a Black Planet: The Art and Culture of Panafrica. I was curious about feminist work, music, poetry, textiles, and film, and I was impressed.

Project a Black Planet is an exhibition that presents cultures, but also the oppression and the reactions. Fighting for human rights in any occupied territory is still an issue; any conversation about colonialism is important to have.

Arts expose racism and the traumatic effects. There is still much to write and create about it. Contemporary creators are in a direct conceptual fight, as the modern version of racism still exists and is deeply inserted inside the system, creating a structural racism. The exposition is important to see for anyone, but it could be an intervention method for individuals who manifest racist reactions nowadays.

Discovering other cultures brings knowledge and understanding. By understanding other cultures, hatred appears pointless, energy-draining, and disappears.

I don't go out much, and a museum, especially the arts, makes me feel like I'm in my element, and also inspired. As art is communication in any of its forms, I have decided to use fashion, T-shirt communication, to make a subtle contact with the exhibition.

The t-shirt I'm wearing, Luna painted especially for me by Cristina Daniela Gagiu, is showing our small Transilvanian culture, in a globe of miniature characters, activities, and it's connected with the ecological aspects that concern us all, around the globe, habitat protection and peace.

CD Gagiu is a multidisciplinary artist, and her manifestos are extended. By using clothing and a living character, who is wearing the paintings as a T-shirt, and is communicating, exposing just by walking around. As the work of art is exposed on my chest, I´m in the position of choosing the rhythm, and will go directly to the subject: recycling and upcycling.

As a reaction to poverty and textile pollution, the so-called poor countries made an effort to recycle, re-use materials considered trash, and now we have a wonderful up-cycling fashion, which is probably the most important ever formed. Up-cycling fights the wasteful system worldwide and brings solutions in a totally creative way.

In this moment, up-cycling fashion is conceptually speaking the top, as it brings the effort of logic in the manifesto, focused on environmental and social aspects.
