Lorca, Romancero Gitano

Essay fragment on language and intimacy, decolonialism, homophobia, and immigration.

Romancero gitano

Lorca is my friend. He was murdered by his own people, and the memory of this great writer is still not respected in his homeland.

As we can observe in the universal literature, murdered writers are probably the most significant in language and emotional support. There is a chain of the greatest poets in universal literature whose voice was interrupted. Those voices were so powerful that they never left the narrative.

I consider Federico García Lorca one of the most empathetic and masterful creators of metaphors, a master at conveying emotion through language. His metaphors have been translated and used in every possible culture, as they moved all of us who read his work, especially those who feel marginalized (on the autism spectrum).

For the LGBTQIA+ community, Federico is a voice we still hear. Lorca is authentic; he wrote what he believed and felt, without interference. There are few as great as him in poetry, and greatness means not to be corrupted. One of the most interesting aspects of Queer literature is that it specializes in love stories, and some of the most intense parts of the literature deal precisely with forbidden love.

As a heterosexual couple, the possibility that your favorite movie is based on a queer love story is huge.
