When you choose to leave certain work experiences off your resume—simply to avoid having to recall the discriminatory treatment you faced at those companies...
We already work more than we should, within a disorganized system that is constantly shifting—and, on top of that, we are poorly compensated (about as poorly as one could possibly be). So, after having worked for a company under inadequate conditions and having experienced discrimination, the last thing you want is to have to revisit that experience.
How do you protect your mental health in a toxic environment? Do you choose to stay, or do you leave?
I wish that if a company was abusive, to not be forced to add it to the work experience. I´m ashamed to have worked for such toxic places, I don´t like that my name was connected to these companies, and the treatment was so horrible, that each time it would have been a despido procedente for the protégée, managers, team-leads, and trainers. My Curriculums would be blank with many skills, and programs known, as to work for each project you pass lots of tests, and the fact that the company has such a discriminatory dynamics and you run for your life, it´s an extra skill.
I have left or I was fired after:
- Whilst I was working in tourism, for some years now, a manager insulted me, combining both misogyny and xenophobia, and I was not ok with it.
- The trainers (women in majority🥺), except one refused to share training content with me, and had to learn by myself how to reach the information, take it from the knowledge hubs, and make my own manuals, adapted to inclusive teaching.
- I was added to a chat group, where my colleagues and team-leads were making fun of me, using nicknames and dehumanizing me, a mix of xenophobia, ableism and misogyny. As the action would have been despite procedente for the whole team, they have tried to negotiate with me, as many people would have lost their work-place. I regret not letting all those people without a job now. You were lucky nobody sustained me, and to access a legal action it´s expensive.
- Manager calling repeatedly to let me know he doesn´t want me in his team, xenophobic crises. He tries to accuse me that I have made a mistake, which I haven´t…I lose the job, and the personalized medical access, he buys young wives…
- The manager´s protejee, with same facial characteristics makes an unhappy joke, implying that I should jump out of the window…Instead of despido procedente the manager called me stupid in a meeting, then proceeded to fire me. Next months I eat white rice with the homeless people, if they invite me. The aggressor pay for female and male company with the money they make, and I´m almost on the streets.
